Military Metal Detectors

11 December 2009

The main purpose of metal detectors in the military are to locate potentially hazardous mines. There are many countries around the world that are burdened with the problem of active mine fields. These mines pose a threat to civilians and also effect the economics of these areas. Metal detectors and specialized operators are on the front lines in these countries with their metal detectors.

Using metal detectors for de mining purposes can be very effective if the area where these mines are located is not littered with other metals. If the area is littered with other metals using a metal detector to de mine is not always the best choice.

Metal detectors used for de mining look very similar to a hobby metal detector, but in fact these metal detectors are very different. These state of the art de mining metal detectors and their descriptions will give you an idea of the technologies used in these specialized metal detectors. The metal detectors below are from Minelab's Countermine line of metal detectors.

F3 Metal Detector

F3 Metal Detector The F3 incorporates all the features of Minelab’s unique, proven and highly renowned Multi Period Sensing technology into Minelab’s new BiPOLAR technology. Features: Selectable sensitivity through use of innovative ‘Sensitivity End caps’ Designed to permit the exchange of coils for UXO detection Minimizes risk of initiating magnetic influence mines Fully adjustable for operator comfort Fully enclosed and protected cables Simple to maintain and service Fast and accurate pin point

F1A4 Metal Detector
F1A4 Metal Detector The F1A4 incorporates Minelab’s unique and highly successful Multi Period Sensing to achieve unsurpassed performance for any de mining or countermine operation. Features: Ability to maintain maximum sensitivity regardless of soil type UXO version for the detection of large deeply buried targets Provision of a ‘Confidence Tone’ for operator safety Monoloop coils for consistent sensitivity
