Hobby Metal Detectors
The use of metal detectors as a hobby has grown quite a bit in the past few years or so. Metal detectors provide hobbyists a tool to find metal artifacts that have been lost or hidden by others throughout the years. Some of the more common types of this hobby are beach metal detecting, coin shooting and relic hunting. Each form metal detecting provides its own form of satisfaction and reward.
The metal detectors used for metal detecting as a hobby are all very common to each other as far as anatomy is concerned. The hobby metal detector consists of three common components. The control box, the shaft and the coil. Though most hobby metal detectors look very similar they differ greatly in how each metal detector performs. The cost of a hobby metal detector can run anywhere from $50 to $1500, depending on the quality and technologies used in each metal detector.
Coin Shooting
Coin shooting with a metal detector is a very popular form of metal detecting. The hobbyist that is involved with this type of metal detecting is focused on finding historic coins that have been lost throughout the years. The coins that this type of hobbyist seeks are usually valuable and sometimes rare. There are those that have a slightly different focus though. These people will concentrate on finding recently dropped coins and then converting them into collectable coin purchases. Either way this form of metal detecting can be very fun and profitable. Relic Hunting
Relic hunting is a form of metal detecting that focuses on finding historically relevant artifacts. The relic hunter is usually more concerned with the historical value of an object as opposed to the monetary value. Relic hunters are hobbyists that dedicate many hours of research and explorer to locate promising sites that could yield artifacts. He or she is usually on the hunt for old fort sites, stockades camps and other similar areas.
Beach Hunting
Beach hunting with a metal detector is very popular along the coastal regions where many tourists visit during the summer seasons. Beach hunting in most cases focuses on finding recently dropped items of value. Someone using a metal detector on the beach is most likely after gold and silver jewelry items.
